We provide dentures as part of our range of general dentistry treatments at Hampstead Dental Studio.

Appointments

What are dentures?

Dentures are a removable set of false teeth. Designed to sit over your gums, dentures are formed of an acrylic or metal (cobalt chrome) base and a set of prosthetic teeth. You can be fitted with either full or partial dentures.

How do I know if I need dentures?

Dentures are used to replace missing teeth or teeth that are damaged beyond repair. As with all our treatments here at Hampstead Dental Studio, we’ll go over all your treatment options with you. In this way, we can make sure you are completely happy with the bespoke plan we develop together.

What happens when I get a set of dentures?

We will take an impression here at the practice and your dentures will be made for you by a lab technician. If you need to have any teeth removed before getting your set of dentures, then we will do that here at Hampstead Dental Studio too.

What is it like wearing dentures?

Having a set of dentures will hopefully help restore your confidence when it comes to eating, drinking, and smiling.

They can take some time to get used to, and you might want to eat soft foods to begin with, but eventually, you will find eating much easier than with your damaged or missing teeth.

You will have to use an adhesive to fix your dentures in place while wearing them, and we will talk you through everything you need to know about caring for your dentures.

What are the differences between metal and acrylic dentures?

If you have no teeth left then acrylic dentures may be the only solution. However, if you have some teeth left, metal dentures are definitely something to consider as they have so many advantages over acrylic dentures, including:

  • Less bulky than acrylic
  • A tighter, more comfortable fit
  • Better support and stability, especially when eating tougher foods
  • Less coverage of your palate meaning you can taste your food better, enjoy the texture and temperature of the food, and reduce or eliminate any gagging.
